| On 3rd June the Penn Street elite embarked on a mission.
After cries from the players, the captain Chris Herriott came through, won the toss and chose to bat first. A strong start to the innings came with good quick singles from Jupp and Reavey. This carried on from the good start, however fours were not coming as easily as we allwould have hoped. The first wicket of Jupp went down with the score on 44. An unfortunate end to a good looking innings. That brought in the laid back Simon Andrews. As he started to push on, Reavey pushed singles to give Andrews the strike. Andrews started to hit some very long balls as we were all called to look for balls in the stinging nettles. Andrews passed 50 as Reavey pushed the singles around. 50 seemed to urge Andrews on to hitting the ball even harder. Reavey passed 50, however shortly after was bowled. This brought Collison to the crease. That spurred Andrews in to life and for the first time in the innings Andrews was running singles!! This helped him to reach the three figure mark. This again pushed the Aussie into hitting the ball a very long way. The innings came to an end with Andrews on 127 not out and at the other end, Collison with 19 not out. After a well deserved tea we returned to try and defend 267. The bowlers kept tight lines and a Damien Ribaudo / Chris Herriott opening partnership with the ball got the opening batsmen jumping about. This was followed by some average bowling from Ketteringham and good tight lines from Dan Hopper on his debut. This enabled little pressure to be built up as the ball was sailing far too often over the boundary. However 2 wickets did fall. This brought a change with Peter Lofty and Chris McKy being brought into the attack. That reduced the run rate, and the game petered out with the opposition not scoring at the desired run rate. Lofty finished with 1 wicket and McKy with 2. Ribaudo and Hopper claimed 1 and Cherriott two. A good win that was capped of with a good meal in the pub after the game. |
