A much needed Sunny Afternoon, (in the summertime.....) Sunday 5th August saw Denham head into Penn Street's manor for a much anticipated match after the amazing Penn Street run chase last year. Were the Denham guys still scarred from this unbelievable victory against all odds (take a look at me now....)?

Denham skipper Bobby tossed up with acting Skipper Pete Jupp and lost, with Jupp electing to bat on a true wicket.

Openers Jupp and George Culbert opened up with Jupp getting off to a great start flicking the first two balls through mid wicket for consecutive fours. The Denham openers tightened their reigns and created pressure and eventually George was bowled for 12. Denham had the bit between their teeth and could sense revenge from last year.... Matt Bannister however had other ideas. Bannister strolled to the crease like a stretched twiglet who had been in traction for 5 years and grafted his way through some early Denham pressure. Jupp was going very nicely, dispatching the bad ball for four until he was unluckily given out off a no ball shoulder high full toss, which he carted to cover for 24. A debate entailed but Jupp walked knowing that the game had to be played in the right spirit - the umpires were embarrassed and I am sure there won't be a repeat performance!! The shed remained in one piece, surprisingly enough! Bannister continued his grit and carried on playing a truly coming of age innings of 37 with a selection of juicy straight drives (looks like Bannister senior had the coaching manual out over evening suppers of chips and diet coke). Watch those arteries Bannie!

PSCC finished on a respectable 141. Not quite the 341 from last year but the team were upbeat that they could do something in the field. And that's just what Jack Mendy decided to do!!

A pumped PSCC 10 players really hit the Denham openers with an outrageous spell of pace and swing from Jack Mendy. The Denham top order had issues with this young upstart who was simply too good. Jack clean bowled the Denham skipper in his first over with an in swinger that demolished his leg stump. Matt Bannister at the other end bagged a wicket and Denham were in bad company.....Mendy struck again with an out swinger which was nicked low to Jupp at first slip who managed to get his hands under the ball to claim the catch and then Bannister got another and Denham were 4 down for less than 50 runs and now the heat in the kitchen was certainly up to the 100 degree mark! The incoming Batsman for Denham was their opening bowler and he was dropped early. What then ensued was another 4 dropped catches which really turned the game into Denhams favour. The opening bowler/batsman for Denham then played some great shots with some big hitting to get Denham to the total for 5 wickets down.

Special mention to Jack Mendy 2 - 41, Matt Bannister for 2-41 and 37 runs and also Grant Henry who is maturing into a Steve Harmison fast bowler with more consistency than the aforementioned player. Keep up the good work Grant along with the anger management.

Well done to Denham and we look forward to seeing you next year.
