| On a blustery Sunday in early May, Penn Street hosted their local rivals Penn & Tylers Green. After 4 consecutive wins for Penn Street against the old firm they were looking forward to extending the run further! The trouble was nobody told Penn & Tylers opening batsmen the script! After the Street lost the toss and were put into field, the two openers filled their boots and proceeded to bludgeon the bowlers like 2 Japanese hunters in a seal sanctuary! After a mighty stand, Penn Street finally broke the partnership but the initial damage had been done. Some truly magical fielding from one of the Streets overseas players, Brandon Clark, saw 4 direct hit run outs that tore the heart out of the middle order. With a few more lusty blows from the tail enders P & T finished on 260 for 9. The Street came out after tea bristling with anticipation of what looked to be a large but attainable P & T target. Peter Jupp getting off to a great start with a flourish of boundaries was unfortunately without his fellow opener after just a couple of overs as he was bowled from the wood end by the wrong un! Wickets began to tumble under the sustained pressure of some tight P & T bowling and some indecisive running between the wickets caused another batsman to visit the shed early. At 6 down, the street looked to be in real trouble but when Paul Munday was joined by Cherriott at the crease things looked slightly brighter with 60 runs coming off just 6 overs. The target was just 110 runs from 19 overs, attainable but with only 4 wickets remaining, caution was key to winning the game. No one told Cherriott who was bowled for 32 but Paul Munday hung on in there for a valiant 39. The street were bowled out for 166, but a good day was had by all. |
