| Another day dawned on which the might of PSCC contested Little Missenden in a battle to the finish on the hallowed turf of Penn Street common.
Penn Street commenced the game by bowling first, but sadly didn’t get off to a constructive start.
The opposition openers began by blazing away, hitting several boundaries in the opening skirmishes. Eventually, after several blows had been struck against us, Paul Goodchild removed the first of the free hitting batsmen. Through much work and sweat in the field we finished the 40 overs needing 216 to win; a superb final few overs by Elmo taking 2 wickets for 4 runs and Goody finishing with 3-29. We knew we would have to come out fighting after the break and fight we did. A slow but steady start placed us in a good position, but when Matt fell for a good 34 a few wickets started to tumble. Simon Andrews and Nick Collison traded blows with the bowlers and battled us back into a position from which we could taste victory. However Simon fell and with his wicket the required rate rose to close to 10 an over. Despite his very best efforts, Nick was unable to drag us across the winning line as we fell just 21 runs short, with Nick top scoring with a good innings of 64. |
