The Project

Overall Aim

The project is to rebuild Penn Street Village Hall to a standard and design that secures for the community a lasting facility for multiple uses. This will create a village hub as a new and demonstrably sustainable partnership engaging and supporting all sections of the local community. Enhanced facilities and opportunities for educational, social, caring, volunteering, exercise and recreational facilities, as well as contributing to the regeneration of the village.

It will be open to groups and societies from outside the village to hire as a venue for their meetings and functions.

Plans

The aim is to construct a new hall large enough to accommodate 80 people seated at tables. It will be a single storey construction. It stands within the Green Belt, AONB and Penn Street Conservation Area and will be designed to complement the surrounding houses and area.

Disability groups have been contacted to ensure the plans comply with all regulations as well as incorporating additional desirable features where possible. Click HERE to see proposed building in detail

Usage

The Hall will be used by a variety of village-based groups and societies and the aim is to keep its function as central to the village community while making it available to hire by those outside of the Village.

The aim is to re-establish the Hall, after it has been unusable for six years, as central to the community providing a variety of services potentially including an informal library, internet access and if feasible, a basic shop and information point.
